How did it begin?

Linetop was formed in 1983 to develop software for large computers and provide IT services. By 2000, microprocessor chips had become cheap and capable - making possible the small-size devices with long battery life that we all now know so well. About this time, Microsoft Windows XP appeared providing a truly reliable desktop PC platform which most Linetop clients would adopt on a one-per-person basis.

What happened next?

We saw the opportunity and designed our own small battery-operated visitor counters for outdoors use or in buildings with or without convenient mains power provision.  These ‘data loggers’ record visitor counts in removeable flash memory ‘cubes’ which are uploaded later using an office PC and our USB cube reader box.  This way of working, with no PC to cart around in the outdoors, proved both reliable and popular. We later developed better sensors and our market-leading analytical app for Windows PCs.  Linetop’s visitor counters have been adopted widely all over the UK - installed from Orkney to Lands End and from the Cliffs of Dover to Cumbria.  We also sell our counters to international buyers.
